Staycation light wine
Alasia Moscato d’Asti is the perfect choice for a sunshine wine. Light, sweet and semi sparkling, and at only 5% ABV its extremely easy to drink. Flavours here are apricot, honey, white blossom and grape. The acidity balances out the sweetness, so it is sweet, without being sickly. Delicious.
Staycation red wine
If you plan to BBQ on your staycation and wanted some hearty Spanish red wine to go with almost any meat you cook. Look no further than a bottle of Matsu El Recio. This is ‘the tough guy’, harvested from extremely old vines that produce a small yield with concentrated flavours. It is deep and rich, flavours of black cherry, black plum, dark chocolate, and vanilla all bound up with silky smooth tannins. Fantastic with steak.
Arrayan Granito – Albillo Real.
I love this grape variety. It offers fascinating results when produced in small quantities such as this. Grown on granite soils, hence the name ‘Granito’, this is a wild fermented white wine from Spain. Only recently gaining its own D.O. (Cebreros), close to Madrid, means the wines from this region are their own protected style. Skin contact gives this wine a velvety texture, and a range of intense and peculiar flavours. Full bodied but with a delicious freshness, flavours here are of mint, thyme, apricot, fennel and on the finish beeswax and honey. There is a persistent minerality too, thanks to the soil being so gravely. I would say it is an exciting version of Chablis. Perfect with smoked salmon or even crab stuffed peppers. Vegan. £18.50
