ON THE SPOT WITH … JACK

This week we’re on the spot with Jack, who is training to be a sommelier and can also be found on the butchery and fish counters. Jack has been working with our wine expert, Gill to recently introduce a new range of wines that are perfectly paired with our produce, so you can truly experience the very best the Farm Shop has to offer! Why not pick up a bottle from the Farm Shop and feel free to enlist Jack’s help in choosing your perfect bottle to enjoy at home.

We caught up with Jack to find out his favourite wines and our top 3 bestsellers at Blacker Hall Farm, and which of our dishes are their perfect pairings…

Three Bestsellers:

The Listening Station Malbec- Australian Malbec with flavours of red plum, blackberry, chocolate, vanilla, good acidity due to night harvest, good balance, great with our Sirloin steaks. £8.25

Cloud Factory Sauvignon Blanc- New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, herbaceous and zesty Sauvignon Blanc, cut grass and lime on the nose, passionfruit with a touch of bell pepper on the palate, crisp and dry, wonderfully refreshing, pair it with grilled asparagus or fish. £9.50

Alasia Moscato d’Asti- This is Asti made properly, golden in colour; this wine is sweet and semi sparkling, without being sickly, honey and flowers on the nose, apricot and grape on the palate, and only 5% ABV! Delicious when chilled on a hot day. £8.00

Jack’s Favourites:

Good Luck Club Cabernet Sauvignon – Australian (Barossa) Cabernet Sauvignon. Fantastic aromas of blackcurrant and black plum, on the palate: deep cassis, vanilla, blackberry, tobacco. Wonderfully balanced Cabernet Sauvignon with a delectable texture, oak influence provides structure while not overwhelming the fruit flavours, great finish. Superb with any of our beef steaks or tuna loin steaks. £14.50

Bischofliche Altenberg Riesling Spatlese – Opulent wine. This spatlese (late harvest) Riesling demonstrates just how good sweet Riesling can be, baked apple, apricot, flint on the nose, toffee apple, poached pear with lemon confit, honeysuckle on the palate, the sweetness is perfectly balanced by the naturally high acidity of Riesling resulting in a wine with poise, length and complexity. Pair with spicy fish dishes or roast gammon. £17.50
