OUR STORY

We provide great tasting Yorkshire meat, from our own farm and other great local farms. Freshly prepared traditional roasts, steak cuts, dry-cured bacon and gammon, artisan sausages and a host of quick and slow-cook ready-to-cook dishes are prepared here by us, by our expert Butchers. We’ll give you step-by-step cooking instructions to help you in the kitchen. If you don’t see exactly what you’re looking for, our friendly Butchers are happy to prepare cuts to your exact requirements.


 

We opened the doors to our 400 year old barn and welcomed our first customers in 1999, and from that day onwards our mission has remained the same: to provide our customers with top quality, seasonal Yorkshire produce, whether it’s made here by us or sourced from the best local farmers, producers and growers.

Five generations of family farming are the back-bone of the Blacker Hall business, and whilst Edward Garthwaite and his wife Cheryl run The Farm Shop and Barn Café, Edward’s sister, Mary, and her husband Matthew run the farm (with a helping hand from Edward’s father, John).

 

Edward’s mother, Anne, played an active role in our Bakery for many years, and whilst she retired from The Farm Shop in 2012 she continues to remain a Director… as well as a full-time farmer’s wife, mother and grandmother. If you’ve ever tried our homemade scones then you’ll know that they’re made to a delicious Anne Garthwaite recipe… but we’re sworn to secrecy!

At the heart of our business is our great Yorkshire produce, and we were honoured to be named the Great Taste Shop of the Year 2016 by the prestigious Guild of Fine Food. Our team of 150 staff work incredibly hard, seven days a week, to ensure that our quality food is prepared, packed and served with exceptional standards of customer service. With a well-stocked Wine Loft and our increasingly popular Gift House, Blacker Hall Farm Shop is a must-visit destination in Yorkshire.
