BETTER BANK HOLIDAYS AT BLACKER HALL FARM

Bank holidays are a chance to do things a little differently.

There’s more time to gather, to cook, and to enjoy food without rushing it. Whether you’re planning something at home or looking for a place to spend the day, it’s often the smaller decisions that make the difference.

At Blacker Hall Farm, everything is set up to help you make the most of it.

BREAK OUT THE BBQ

For many, a bank holiday means one thing, the barbecue.

Whether you’re keeping it simple or planning something a bit more considered, it’s worth starting with the right ingredients. From burgers and sausages to larger cuts and prepared options, what you put on the grill will shape the whole day.

Our butchery counter is set up with barbecuing in mind. You’ll find everything from everyday essentials to something a little more substantial — giant BBQ skewers, whole fish ready for the grill, and large king prawns prepared and ready to cook.

It doesn’t need to be complicated. Just well chosen, and cooked with a bit of care.

A MEAL IN THE BARN KITCHEN

If you’d rather leave it to us, the Barn Kitchen is open throughout the bank holiday.

Start the day with a full Yorkshire breakfast, take your time over brunch, or settle in for lunch made with ingredients from across the farm shop. We’ve just laucnhed our new spring menu whick is packed full of tastly ligher option for you to enjoy in the Bank Holiday Sunshine!

Enjoy your food inside or out, inside, you’re surrounded by the character of the Grade II listed barn. Or, if the weather allows, the terrace offers a quieter place to sit, overlooking the fields, with space to slow things down a little.

PICKY TEA, DONE PROPERLY

Not every meal needs to be planned.

A “picky tea” is often one of the easiest ways to bring people together, especially over a long weekend. A few good choices, shared across the table, can be just as satisfying as something more structured.

Our Yorkshire deli has everything you need to build your own spread — from handmade sausage rolls and pork pies to cheeses, charcuterie and fresh accompaniments.

It’s informal, but a great choice for a gathering with friends. And it works for just about any occasion.

DINE ALFRESCO IN THE COURTYARD

If you’re visiting the farm or passing through, the Courtyard Kitchen is a good place to stop.

It’s set up for something quick but well made, from pulled pork sandwiches and loaded fries to smashed steak burgers and freshly prepared sandwiches.

It’s the kind of food that suits a day outdoors, whether you’re taking a break or making it part of your visit.

A MAGICAL FAMILY EXPERIENCE

Spring is a special time on the farm, and one of the most heartwarming experiences for young visitors is the chance to bottle-feed our lambs.

As part of the Little Farmers Trail, children can meet our newest arrivals and help care for them — a moment of pure joy for little ones and a memory families treasure long after Spring has passed.

Why good butchery starts long before the knife touches the meat | Yorkshire farm shop's guide to award winning butchery

When people think about butchery, they tend to picture the final stage. A knife, a block, a cut of meat ready to be prepared for cooking. But in truth, good butchery starts long before any of that. At Blacker Hall Farm, the work begins with the animal itself. How it’s reared, how it’s handled, and how well we understand it. That knowledge shapes everything that follows.
