Cooking a good steak isn’t about complexity. It’s about doing the simple things properly.
Start with quality meat, give it the right heat, allow it time to rest and then, if you want to take it one step further, finish it well.
That’s where our new homemade steak butters come in.
Butter isn’t just an extra, it’s a way to add balance, richness and depth. Used properly, it enhances the natural flavour of the beef without masking it.
As your steak cooks, a knob of butter in the pan allows you to baste the meat, helping to develop a deeper flavour and an even finish.
Or, once cooked, placing butter on top of a resting steak allows it to melt slowly, creating a natural sauce that carries flavour across every bite.
It’s a simple technique, used in professional kitchens every day, and one that’s easy to bring into your own cooking.
Our steak butters are made in-house, using carefully chosen ingredients and a clear purpose: to help you cook better at home.
Of course, butter is only part of the story.
All of our beef is reared on our family farm here in Wakefield, then dry-aged for 21 days to develop flavour and tenderness. It’s prepared by our butchers, who understand the importance of every cut and every detail.
Because when the starting point is right, everything else becomes easier.
At just 95p per butter, it’s a small addition but one that changes the result.
And this weekend, if you’re picking up steak from our butchery counter, we’ll include one for you a simple way to try the difference for yourself.
It’s not about making cooking complicated.
It’s about understanding what makes food better, and doing it with care.
That’s what we mean by Cook Better with Blacker Hall Farm.

Father's Day is often a reason to gather around the table and enjoy food that's been chosen and prepared with care. For many families, that means steak.
When ingredients are in season, they need less doing to them. Flavours are fuller. Cooking becomes more straightforward. A good cut of meat, fresh vegetables harvested at the right time and ingredients that have not travelled unnecessarily far bring enough to the plate.
Each week, Reward Card customers spending £30 or more in The Farm Shop will receive a complimentary seasonal treat, a little something extra to enjoy alongside your usual shop.
