Slaughter Methods

Slaughter Methods & Animal Welfare

At Blacker Hall Farm, animal welfare is of the utmost importance to us. As a family farm, we work to the highest welfare standards and use traditional farming methods, ensuring every animal is well cared for throughout its life.

This commitment to welfare does not end at the farm gate. We are proud to work with John Penny & Sons Abattoir in Leeds, a long-established family run business with animal welfare at the core of its operations.

We have built a trusted and transparent relationship with John Penny & Sons over many years and visit the abattoir regularly. We are confident that all animals are handled, transported and slaughtered in a respectful, humane and professional manner.

All cattle supplied for Blacker Hall Farm are fully stunned prior to slaughter using a non-reversible captive bolt method.

While John Penny & Sons do hold certification to process animals for other businesses requiring halal meat, this does not involve traditional non-stun halal slaughter methods. Animals processed under this certification are still fully stunned prior to slaughter.

No animals supplied by or for Blacker Hall Farm Shop from John Pennys & Sons are processed using halal methods.
